Airtricity announces rise in gas and electricity prices

THE ENERGY COMPANY Airtricity has announced that its prices will rise from the middle of next month.
The company said that it will increase electricity prices by 4.7 per cent and gas by 8.5 per cent from 15 October. Customers who are on pre-paid meters will not be affected.
Airtricity has 370,000 electricity customers and 110,000 gas customers in Ireland.
The company blamed the increase on the cost of using the national transmission grid, the weak euro against the sterling and the overall pressure on wholesale energy prices for the rise.
“We are genuinely aware of the financial pressures facing households right now.
“That’s why we are doing all we can to offer a fair price for the energy we supply and to minimise the impact of price increases on our customers,” Airtricity’s managing director Stephen Wheeler said in a statement.
Already Bord Gáis has announced an 8.5 per cent increase in its prices for gas customerswhile Electric Ireland has also announced price rises for its gas and electricity customers from 1 October.
